**Key Points:** * Kash Patel, a 40-year-old lawyer with little government experience, rose rapidly in the Trump administration, holding various high-ranking positions, including chief of staff to the acting secretary of defense. * Many top officials, including Mark Milley and Gina Haspel, expressed concerns about Patel's loyalty to Trump and his willingness to disregard the law to please the president. * Patel's colleagues described him as "dangerous" because he appeared to have no plan of his own, but rather prioritized pleasing Trump's mercurial wishes. * Patel was ultimately denied a role at the pinnacle of the national-security establishment, but Trump has promised to learn from his mistakes and potentially appoint him again. * Since leaving the administration, Patel has profited from his association with Trump, selling merchandise, books, and consulting services, including working as a national security adviser to Trump. * Patel has also been involved in various other ventures, including producing a song, "Justice for All," and promoting a Christian payment processor, while also claiming to work as a security consultant abroad.
