There are four festivals, each with its opposite. Sowing and reaping, life and death; Imbolg and Lughnasadh, Bealtaine and Samhain.

Samhain eases us into the year's end, its slow death before the renewal of Imbolg. Both celebratory and solemn. Balance in all things.
Bealtaine is the other side of Samhain's coin. On both days, the veil is thin. But while Samhain is a celebration for the spirits, Bealtaine is a celebration for the living.

So, wherever you are, I hope you are celebrating and living to the fullest.

Erstmal gegoogelt 🤣

What was ancient Samhain actually about? We don't know, but we can take a few guesses from a few early texts:

Here's why people have argued this to be true. Samhainwas one of the four early medieval (and likely ancient) Irish feasts of the year, alongside Imbolc, Bealtaine, and Lughnasadh. One of the quarter days, so called because each marked out 1/4th of the year.

One theory is that Crom is a chthonic deity who competes with the God Lugh Lamhfada for the Lughnasadh harvest. Another theory is that He is a completely different Celtic deity (perhaps even Lugh Himself) under a different name.

If you celebrate the sabbats, we roast for you. If you're just learning what Lughnasadh is, we roast for you too. The Wheel of the Year belongs to everyone who wants to pay attention to it.

Mini devlog: Designing Hedgewitch's Wheel, the part I cared about most was memory. The garden carries state from spring to harvest: what you sow at Ostara is what you lift at Lughnasadh, six sittings later, in your own words. A year should remember what you did to it - whether it's real or fantasy

Imbolc, Bealtaine, Litha, Lughnasadh and Samhain are IRISH holidays. You don’t get to make a new religion to celebrate them. I don’t even mind if you practice Irish paganism but stop giving it a new fucking name

Happy equinox by cracky

Usually I henna on cross quarters. The plan was to go progressively gray, and I was too ill to do my roots on Lughnasadh. I let it go, and now just skipping it. 😶

Wyrdlings!

With Mabon upon us this week, halfway between Lughnasadh and Samhain at the threshold of this year’s autumn, we give you:

“Mabon: A Harvest of Stories”

as our #WyrdWednesday topic. Come, sit and tell us harvest tales and speak of all things wyrd and wynderfully autumnal!

Lughnasadh is actually quite lovely - which I now realize is exactly the kind of thing someone would say if they’re hiding something about their harvest festival . . .

#ShowMeYourKnits 🧶 this week it's yellows and autumnal oranges. I am a big fan of knitting with gold and amber, witness the three shawls - one very old project, two more recent - an upcoming pattern release which is a rectangular wrap, and some very sunshiney handspun yarn yet to find its purpose!

Yes, I think you’re right. I don’t know about a permanent sabbat range, but I think a limited edition Lughnasadh or autumn equinox candle would be nice.
