Google says: The specific alignment of #BuckinghamPalace with a minor #LunarStandstill (or any major astronomical phenomenon) is widely considered an internet #UrbanLegend rather than an architectural or #archaeoastronomical theory.

#BeenThereDoneThat, but the videos are in my Nikon D800 DSLR. They won't be uploaded to YouTube until later tonight, or tomorrow.

It's a #MicroMoon & a #BlueMoon & it's rising & setting very much to the south in a trajectory similar to that of a #WinterSolstice sun.

Lunar Standstill over Crich Stand

I have been wanting to get a photo like this for some time. The current very low moon (lunar standstill) made it possible.

The June 2025 full moon occurred during a major lunar standstill: an event that happens every 18.6 years, where the Moon is lowest in the sky. Lunar standstills last for approximately two years and we see the Moon rising and setting furthest north. The ratio of the polar diameter of the Moon to it’s equatorial diameter is about 99.9%, but the photograph shows it as 97.9% by a simple pixel count, due to refraction of light by the Earth’s atmosphere, caused predominantly by the Moon being low in the sky. This photograph was taken from the centre of the Nine Stones Close, or Grey Ladies stone circle on Harthill Moor in Derbyshire, England. Seven standing stones arranged in a 13.7 metre diameter circle were recorded in 1847, but today only four remain and are among the largest in any stone circle in the county.

Happy Strawberry Moon, y’all!! 🌙 Our little fam spent time outside tonight watching her rise and bathing in her beauty, with Xandir declaring, “It looks like it ate a strawberry!” and Elena singing, “Hi, Moon-Moon!”

🌕 On the night of June 10 into June 11, the #fullmoon will transit very low on the horizon if you’re in the northern hemisphere. This happens every 18.6 years during what’s called a major #lunarstandstill when the Moon reaches its furthest points north and south of the Sun’s path. #lunar
