its like a subliminal desire to Return to the Safe Place. Even if people in the Army are too young to have ever seen a Garand or M1903 Springfield outside of video games they still have some ancestral yearning to RETURN
And the M14 in turn is a diet coke of what some parts of the Army *really* want back -- a rifle that accepts .30-06 Springfield

- M4 knockoff (16" mid-length gas, Aimpoint M4, shitty railed handguard w/surefire I need to replace)

If I decided I wanted to blow more money without going Colt level I'd add in early Cold War esoteric battle rifles and toss in a FN49 and AG-42 to my BM-59, MAS-49, and vz. 52

It could possibly be from a Springfield M1903, but still, it's strange that both the Charlie Kirk shooter and this person went with rifle actions designed more than 120 years ago.

After the US entered World War II, the Army updated its Rifle Platoons to an organization that would only see minor updates throughout the war. They went back to an organic BAR in the squad, plus an M1903 for grenade launching before the M7 launcher for the Garand was adopted.
