M57 — The Ring Nebula

Almost 30 hours of LRGB + SHO data with the Celestron EdgeHD 8". I experimented quite a bit with blending the broadband and narrowband data and playing with the colours. A little funky, but I like where it ended up!

I forget how tiny the Ring Nebula (M57) is. It's been a few years since I've imaged this. This is with an 8" aperture, 2032mm focal length scope.

M57, The Ring Nebula, is a planetary nebula located about 2600 ly away in the constellation of Lyra.

Kinematic studies of M57 suggest that it is barrel shaped. It appears as a ring to us because we are looking down the barrel. #astronomy
