I just acquired two Phoenician bronze coins from Gades (Cádiz, Spain), dating to c. 200–100 BC.
They depict Melqart, the chief god of ancient Gades and protector of trade and seafarers, with two tunas on the reverse.

🐮Representa al dios Melqart luchando contra un toro.
🔎Seguramente el combate represente el mito del Toro Celeste, que invoca el poder benefactor del dios derrotando las fuerzas del caos.

Before Michael, ancient Near Eastern gods like Baʿal, Resheph, Melqart, and Ninurta filled his role: warrior, judge, enforcer of cosmic law.
Baʿal battled chaos (Yamm) with thunder
Resheph wielded plague and fire
Flaming swords, astral armies
