From the MINWR. They’re around an island near Haulover Canal.

In better news, I can now share that we caught @natickbobcat.bsky.social on vacation. Robert seemed to find the Florida weather acceptable; but seemed confused on how we were able to spot him.

Straight off the camera - not even a contrast boost.
Juvenile Brown Anole (A. sagrei), showing absolutely No Fear to me in the Merritt Island NWR.

On the ""Cruickshank Memorial Trail".

Now where have I heard that name before?

I couldn't agree more: tons of diversity, easy to get right down to the water level (if you don't mind the alligators), and it's big enough that once you're away from the boardwalk it's usually not crowded (critical for video). MINWR is also good, but hard to get low, and cars constantly ruin audio

What most people don’t know is that KSC and/or CCSFS are on the MINWR, so, as Gene points out, they won’t care what they destroy. Nature and wildlife are for beta cucks:
So any protected land around a new "spaceport" will likely face the same fate as the Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge, and you've seen those empty spent boosters landing in Chinese villages? Yep...coming to a neighborhood near you....
To put it bluntly, this will be catastrophic for the space industry in the long run. For communities who live close to launch sites, companies will no longer be required to do adequate environmental investigation and design before building and flying from pads.

This is in Central Florida, at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. MINWR is the winter destination for more than 100 species of birds. It is a wonderful place.

Driving east from Titusville #Florida over the Indian River towards Kennedy Space Center.

#KSC shares borders with the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. 90% of the land is not used by NASA so #MINWR manages the rest.

I am a Greater Yellowlegs
I nest in mosquito-filled bogs
We are not very well studied because of that -
I think Ornithologists might be anti-mosquito snobs.

We are known as American Avocets
We occasionally can be brood parasites
Sometimes we leave eggs in other birds nests
And just hope that they bring them up right.

I am a Stilt Sandpiper,
I can normally be IDd by a prominent eyeline
Mine eyeline is a bit shorter than most
But my thick down-curved beak as ID's also fine.

We are male Northern Pintail ducks
Our tails are pointy and our heads are brown.
When migrating to breed,
We can fly up to speeds
Of 48 mph - we REALLY want to get down.

This plant might be Cartilage Lichen
Comparing photos and location it's likely
But you would have to understand the document linked below
That explains lichen identifying keys.

I am known as a Reddish Egret
And I'm happy it's Valentine's Day
I'm all dressed up in my breeding colors
I don't normally put on this display.

I am known as a Green Heron
I feed both at night and during the day
I'm not too picky about where I eat -
Swamps, harbors, mudflats even floodplains.
