Logitech's MK880 combo sells itself with its cushioned ergonomics, but it was the Logi Options+ software that truly won me over.
Logitech Signature Comfort Plus Combo MK880 review: It's the software that wins you over
Quick Verdict The Logitech Signature Comfort Plus Combo MK880's curved keyboard and cushioned wrist rest was a comfortable improvement over a flat, laptop keyboard, but I found the Logi Options+ app's shortcuts and Smart Actions to be the combo's real drawcard. The mouse's palm cushion is barely noticeable, and there's no backlighting or wired fallback, but at $169.95 for the pair, it's hard to find a more comfortable, more customisable way to work. ✓ Pros * Curved wave keyboard shape and cushioned wrist pad reduce strain over several weeks of daily use * Logi Options+ software allows deep per-app customisation, down to remapping individual function keys and building Smart Actions workflows * Quiet, accurate typing and mouse tracking * Easy-Switch across three devices, with standard AA/AAA batteries rated for years ✗ Cons * The mouse's signature palm cushion adds no noticeable support * Mouse is right-hand only, with no left-handed version available * Full Options+ customisation, including Smart Actions, only works on Mac and Windows, not when paired to an iPad * No backlighting on the keyboard and no wired connection fallback if Bluetooth or Bolt aren't an option RRP: $169.95 * * * I was in dire need of a new keyboard when the Logitech MK880 combo showed up for review. My old keyboard was a small Apple keyboard that came with an old iMac, and it had just died. But it lacked the things I was longing for: Ergonomics, comfort and a number pad. The Logitech MK880 combines the K880 keyboard and the M850 L mouse into a single package, with both offering a soft cushion design that is supposed to offer extra support for people at their computer all day. And it works. It has taken a while to get used to the curved ergonomic design, but my wrists and fingers feel much better having made the switch from an Apple keyboard. Unfortunately, left handers won’t feel the same way, though. 💡 Logitech supplied the Signature Comfort Plus Combo MK880 for this review. ## What makes the Logitech Signature Comfort Plus Combo MK880 stand out? When I first wrote the news about Logitech’s MK880 keyboard and mouse, it was all about the fluffy cushions designed to offer more wrist support. But having taken the keyboard and mouse out of the box, there’s so much more to the ergonomics of the combo than just the cushioning. The keyboard has a wavey, curved design that makes it easier on the wrists. It’s comfortable to use, which is especially reassuring given the completely reasonable asking price of $169 for the combo. For that, you not only get the keyboard and mouse, but also Logitech’s Logi+ software that lets you customise both products for either Mac or PC. This makes it a bit of a bargain option for anyone looking for an ergonomic keyboard and mouse solution, whether that’s for the office or the home office. ### Logitech Signature Comfort Plus Combo MK880 specs Specification | Keyboard (K880) | Mouse (M850 L) ---|---|--- Price | $169.95 RRP for the combo Design | Full-size, curved wave keybed with dual-foam palm rest | Right-handed, sculpted with integrated palm cushion Key/button type | Plunger keys, customisable F-row, dedicated AI launch key | 6 buttons — left/right click, scroll-wheel click, 2 side buttons, DPI button Sensor / scrolling | — | Pluto ONE sensor, SmartWheel scrolling Adjustment | 4° and 8° typing tilt angles | — Lighting | Caps Lock, battery and Easy-Switch indicator LEDs. No USB receiver included. ## Design and build quality The MK880 comes in a graphite colour, and it’s exactly the colour you expect to see from an ergonomic keyboard and mouse. The wave design of the keyboard is subtle but effective, with a natural convex around the centre of the keyboard that makes it more natural to type on compared to a traditional laptop’s keys. You get the full keyboard, too, with a full number pad, full sized arrow keys and page control options. You can adjust the height of the back of the keyboard thanks to rear feet, and the keyboard lets you easily pair with up to three separate devices. But the cushioned pad at the base of the keyboard is the hero here. It supports your wrists as you type, with enough padding to feel soft but firm enough that you feel supported. The mouse, meanwhile, is for right-handers only, ergonomically wrapped around the claw grip of your right hand. It’s a reasonably well connected device, with two buttons under the left thumb, clickable central scroll wheel and a shortcut button that can be customised in the Logi Options+ app. Like the keyboard, it also includes a soft cushion which sits directly underneath your palm. If I’m honest though, it doesn’t really do much of anything. Your wrist still sits on the desk, and you can’t really feel anything different in the mouse’s cushion. It’s not a badly designed mouse - in fact, it’s more comfortable than my usual Logitech mouse. But the cushion in the centre of the body doesn’t feel like it offers any extra support. ## Performance ### Typing feel It took me a few weeks to get used to typing on the MK880’s keyboard. It was noticeably different to the Apple keyboard I had been using, with a lot more travel distance in the keys. That travel distance is a good and a bad thing. I found myself making a lot more mistakes while typing using this keyboard at first. But gradually, as I got used to it, my accuracy improved a lot. I’m probably still faster and more accurate on my Macbook Pro’s integrated keyboard, but that’s because I’ve been using Mac keyboards for years (if not decades). This is a completely different style, so it makes sense it’s going to take some getting used to. Typing on the Logitech keyboard is quiet, though. It’s not silent, but the keys don’t give you loud clickety clacks as you’re working. As a working keyboard for anyone in the office, it performs really well. ### Mouse feel and tracking The MK880’s mouse is comfortable and accurate to use. I really appreciated the level of customisation available in the Logi Options+ app, especially to take advantage of the thumb buttons and central shortcut buttons. Tracking is quick and accurate. It’s not the type of mouse you want to choose for competitive gaming, but for office tasks it is more than sufficient. But as I mentioned above, it’s biggest point of differentiation, the pillow on the top of the mouse that promises better support, just doesn’t feel like anything at all when you’re using the mouse. It’s not bad. I certainly didn’t feel like it was an affront to the gods of ergonomics when I used it. But it was only after a couple of weeks I even remembered it was there, that’s how unnoticeable it is. ### Software and customisation Logi Options+ is a free software download for either PC or Mac that lets you customise both the keyboard and mouse’s functions. This is arguably the combo’s strongest selling point, because it’s versatile and easy to use. To start with, you can customise the various function keys for both general settings, or on an app-by-app basis. For example, I use Ulysses to write all my reviews, and I set a custom control that turned the F3 key from the standard “Mission Control” button into a “Maximise window” control. The possibilities here are made even greater by Logitech’s “Smart Actions”, which lets you create simple “If this then that” workflows for different button presses, for either universal or app-specific situations. Shift to the mouse and it’s a similar story. You can customers the two thumb buttons as well as the scroll-wheel button and the shortcut button below that. There are the obvious features, like forward and back controls, or you can assign smart options. And again, you can do that for both Global settings as well as per application. By default, the app had preset controls for Final Cut, Google Chrome and Safari, but if you want dedicated controls for different apps, like Pixelmator or even AI tools like Claude, it’s easy to set up. It does take a bit of time to set up everything as you want it across all your apps, but for productivity it’s a killer feature. The catch is that you only get that level of customisation on Mac or Windows. If you pair the keyboard to an iPad, for example, you won’t be able to create the same shortcuts or customisation. But I feel that’s a niche use that probably isn’t too important anyway. ### Connectivity and battery Both the keyboard and the mouse lets you pair to three different devices, easily switching between them. On the keyboard, there are dedicated buttons that let you connect with a single press, while the mouse has a button on the bottom that you use to cycle through your different devices. Both devices use standard batteries – a single AA in the mouse and a pair of AAAs in the keyboard. Logitech rates them for years of life. I’ve been testing the Combo for a number of weeks, so I obviously can’t verify that, but the Logi Options+ app tells me both are still at 100% battery life. ## Verdict At $169 RRP for the combo, the MK880 is great value for money. Both the keyboard and the mouse are comfortable to use for a full day’s work, even if the cushion in the mouse doesn’t really do anything. But the stronger sell is affordable access to the Logi Options+ app, which lets you deeply customise both the keyboard and mouse for the different apps you use on a daily basis. It’s easy to use and powerful in its comprehensiveness. You don’t get things like backlighting or a wired fallback connection, but with standard AA/AAA batteries that are rated for years of use, neither is a big loss here. For anyone looking for a strong, comfortable work keyboard and mouse, this is an ideal option. ### Buy the Logitech Signature Comfort Plus Combo MK880 if * **You spend full days typing at a desk and feel it in your wrists.** Switching from a flat keyboard, the curved wave design and cushioned palm rest made a real difference over several weeks of use. * **You rely on app-specific shortcuts to get through your day.** Logi Options+ lets you remap keys and build Smart Actions workflows for individual apps. * **You want a full-size layout with a number pad.** The MK880 keyboard includes a full number pad, arrow keys and page controls. ### Skip the Logitech Signature Comfort Plus Combo MK880 if * **You're left-handed.** The M850 L mouse is right-hand only, with no alternative version sold. * **You need backlighting or a wired fallback.** There's no illumination on the keyboard and no USB cable mode. * **You're buying it specifically for the mouse's ergonomic cushion.** It adds no noticeable support beyond a standard mouse. * **You're mostly pairing with an iPad.** The deeper Options+ features like Smart Actions and per-app shortcuts only work on Mac and Windows. * * * ### Latest keyboards & mice deals * * * ## Frequently Asked Questions #### Does the Logitech Signature Comfort Plus Combo MK880 come with a USB receiver? No, it doesn’t have a USB receiver. The standard bundle connects over Bluetooth Low Energy only. #### Can I use the mouse if I'm left-handed? The M850 L mouse is a right-handed sculpted design only, and Logitech doesn't offer a left-handed version of this particular mouse. #### Does the keyboard have backlighting? Neither the keyboard nor any part of the combo is illuminated, so typing in a dark room relies on touch-typing accuracy. #### How long do the batteries last? Logitech rates the keyboard's two AAA batteries for up to 36 months and the mouse's single AA battery for up to 24 months. After several weeks of daily testing, the Logi Options+ app still showed both sitting at 100% battery, so there's no reason so far to doubt those figures holding up. #### Can I connect it to more than one device? Yes. Both the keyboard and mouse support Easy-Switch across up to three paired devices. The keyboard has dedicated buttons for switching instantly, while the mouse uses a button on the underside to cycle through paired devices. #### Does the mouse's cushion actually help with wrist support? It's a nice idea and it doesn't hurt anything, but after weeks of regular use I haven’t noticed any difference in support compared with a standard mouse. * * *

New MK880 kb/mouse combo from Logitech, first impressions.

I was able to connect both to my desktop computer through the Logi transceiver, no problem. Might want to get another transceiver. The other mouse (M750) kept work, the devices are not paired to each other.

Logitech Signature Comfort Plus Combo MK880 review: Affordable keyboard & mouse with customisation
Macworld At a glance Expert's Rating Pros Affordable keyboard/mouse combo Comfortable design Versatile app and customisation features Cons No wired/USB connection No rechargeable battery Mouse is right-handed only Our Verdict It may lack the stylish design of Logitech’s MX range, but the Comfort Plus Combo combines comfortable ergonomics with versatile customisation features at a competitive price. The lack of rechargeable batteries is disappointing, though – as is the lack of a left-handed version of the mouse. Price When Reviewed This value will show the geolocated pricing text for product undefined Best Pricing Today Price When Reviewed 99.99 Best Prices Today: Logitech Signature Comfort Plus Combo Retailer Price $99.99 View Deal Price comparison from over 24,000 stores worldwide Product Price Price comparison from Backmarket Who the Signature Comfort Plus Combo MK880 is for: People on a budget Professional users who use a keyboard and mouse all day long Power users who like to customise keyboard and mouse controls Who it’s not for: Left-handed users need not apply People who prefer a low-profile, silent keyboard People who prefer a wired keyboard and mouse Logitech’s MX range includes some of the best mice and keyboards available for the Mac , but with individual devices costing well over $100, they’re far from cheap. By contrast, the Signature Comfort Plus Combo pairs a keyboard and mouse for just $99.99/£99.99, while the M850L mouse is also available separately for $49.99 / £49.99 . Like the MX mice , however, it’s only available in a right-handed design. The Signature Comfort Plus Combo is aimed at budget-conscious professionals who spend long hours at a desk. Its comfortable ergonomics and extensive customisation features outweigh compromises such as the right-handed-only mouse and replaceable batteries, making it an excellent value choice for most office users. The curved contours and built-in wrist-rest are designed to reduce strain during long hours at work. Foundry How comfortable is the Comfort Plus Combo? Logitech states that the Comfort Plus Combo is “designed for comfort” and is aimed at people who spend long hours every day working with their mouse and keyboard. The Comfort Plus keyboard doesn’t have the ‘split’ design of ergonomic keyboards – such as Logitech’s own Ergo model – which are split into two sections that are placed at an angle in order to reduce strain on the wrists, but it does have a smoothly curved surface and a built-in wrist-rest that allow you to rest your hands in a more natural and comfortable position while typing. That may be a matter of personal preference for some people, but I found that typing on the Comfort Plus keyboard felt quite natural, and while the plastic keyboard isn’t as solidly built as the more expensive MX Keys from Logitech, the keys do travel well and felt firm and responsive as I began taking notes for this review. The keys aren’t too loud either, which is something that I find irritating with some less expensive keyboards. The Comfort Plus mouse has a special ‘cushion’ to support your palm while you’re working. Foundry The buttons on the Comfort Plus mouse are designed to be silent too – although it’s more accurate to say that they’re very quiet, rather than completely silent. At first glance, the Comfort Plus mouse looks like a slightly smaller version of the MX Master, with the same distinctive ridged pattern on the surface, with Left/Right buttons and a scrolling wheel on the top panel, and two buttons for your thumb on the left-side of the mouse. It doesn’t have the second scrolling wheel of the MX mouse, but the Comfort Plus mouse does introduce one new feature in the form of a soft, spongy ‘palm cushion’ that is supposed to support your hand during long hours of use. To be honest, I barely noticed the palm cushion while using the mouse myself, so I’m not convinced that this is a particularly important innovation. However, I did find that the lower profile of the Comfort Plus fit my palm more comfortably, with the top panel of the mouse not bulging upwards as much as that of the MX Master. But, as mentioned, there’s no left-handed version of the Comfort Plus mouse, and Logitech’s oft-repeated boast about ‘extending human potential’ rings rather hollow when it only applies to right-handed people (needless to say, there’s one or two lefties here at Macworld). How does it connect and what’s missing? The low cost of the Comfort Plus Combo does involve a few compromises. The Comfort Plus keyboard and mouse both rely on Bluetooth for a wireless connection. They can’t be used in wired mode with a USB-C cable, and the standard version of the Combo doesn’t include Logitech’s Bolt USB adaptor, which provides a more reliable and secure wireless connection than Bluetooth. However, Logitech has stated that it will release a Business Edition of the Comfort Plus Combo that includes the Bolt adaptor for $109.99/£109.99. The lack of USB means that the keyboard and mouse don’t include a rechargeable battery either. Logitech does include replaceable batteries in the box though, and states that both keyboard and mouse should last for ‘up to 24 months’ before the batteries need to be replaced. You can pair the keyboard and mouse with your Mac or mobile devices using the standard Bluetooth Settings panel, and they can pair with up to three different devices, allowing you to share the keyboard and mouse with a Mac and an iPad, or a PC and switch between them as required. The biggest omissions are practical rather than deal-breaking. The keyboard and mouse rely entirely on Bluetooth, with no wired USB mode for charging or use. They also use replaceable batteries instead of rechargeable ones, while Logitech’s more secure Bolt USB receiver is only included with the Business Edition. What can you customise with Logi Options+? Logitech sometimes prefers to call itself Logi for some reason, and the app that controls its mice and keyboards is called Logi Options+. You don’t need to download the Options+ app to get started, as both mouse and keyboard can pair with your Mac or mobile devices using a standard Bluetooth connection. However, the Options+ app allows you to adjust a wide range of settings and controls, such as the Function keys on the Comfort Plus keyboard, or the side buttons on the mouse. Business users can set up the keyboard with shortcuts for apps such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams, while creative users can create shortcuts to work with Photoshop or other design tools. The Options+ app provides similar features for the buttons on the mouse, allowing you to assign commands such as Forward/Back to the thumb buttons for use with a web browser. There are also the inevitable AI features, such as an AI Prompt Builder that can be triggered with a mouse button or keyboard command to start typing out a prompt for your vibe-coding sessions. The Options+ app allows you to create keyboard shortcuts to speed up work on your most important apps. Foundry Is the Logitech Signature Comfort Plus Combo MK880 worth buying? The MX range offers better build quality, rechargeable batteries, wired USB support and extra productivity features, so it’s worth the upgrade for demanding users. However, most right-handed office workers will find the Comfort Plus Combo comfortable, customisable and good value. The lack of rechargeable batteries is disappointing, but replacing them every couple of years shouldn’t be too much of a chore.
