It was a fun ride. At some point this week Charter started recompressing and transcoding all its channels from its native MPEG2 and 1080i (in those cases) to AVC and 720p. No longer practically distinguishable from satellite TV. sad!

I'm using Hybrid QTGMC these days, but someone made an AutoYUY2 filter for VirtualDub2 which reinterlaces chroma in MPEG2 sources, which VirtualDub2 would ignore otherwise. The old MPEG Streamclip can also reinterlace MPEG2 chroma.

It's always neat to see what once needed dedicated hardware, like MPEG decoders, before becoming a purely CPU/software thing once the CPUs were there and cheap enough.
I've got a Bubblegum Crisis DVD release from 98 aimed at PCs, and you need a DVD drive *and* dedicated MPEG2 board to watch it.

Lifelong antenna TV weirdo here. There's a new over-the-air broadcast TV standard that adds a lot of nice modern features like support for codecs that are newer than MPEG2, HDR, and expanded range.

Quick question about video conversion. I'm using handbrake to make an H264 encode of some MPEG2 dvd remuxes, but the colors are coming out a bit different. I had tried H265 10 bit as well, but same thing happened.
Hopefully it's visible in the uploads (MPEG2 on the left and H264 on the right)

So Handbrake is the only bit of software on my M4 Mac Mini that has turned the fan on so far. Bloody fast at converting MPEG2 to MP4 as well!

Os blu-rays são em SD, mas imagino que as fontes não tiveram que passar por MPEG2 primeiro. De qualquer maneira vou analisar o dvdrip em X264 10bit que achei.
