I don't even think git being licensed more permissively (eg, MPL2 or something) would be a bad thing! It would be a net positive for humanity probably. Just, like. Using AI to rewrite and relicense one of the single most-used pieces of GPLed software is actually a declaration of licensing war.

this is 15k loc rust 16k loc typescript application where i am basically the solo developer. it is currently closed source but will eventually be open source (i actually have it licensed as mpl2 already but the repo is private for Reasons)

As I've said, a world in which Git is MPL2ed is a better one.
Although if that's your stance you likely also don't like calling the MPL2 free since there is still a redistribution clause, just a weaker one.

it's at least a hell of a lot better than the GPL! not free like I'd love all software to be, but at least it's trying to balance actual freedom with the idea of share-alike licensing. git under MPL2 would be a definitive improvement!

I mean I think I'm much more concerned about corporate abuse of the commons than you are. IMHO MPL2 strikes a good balance between user freedoms and preventing the worst kinds of abuses.
