I had/have an Amiga but never owned the MT32 at the time. I now have the mt32pi addon for my fpga hardware emulator. The difference in dos games is awesome

Incredibly pleased with the MT32-pi, a device that turns a Raspberry Pi into an effective hardware emulator of the Roland MT-32. Check out the back to back comparisons in this clip. Full video: youtu.be/ax5GfOPlZCg #retrogaming #misterfpga #mt32pi #emulation

Most of the above - designed for Multisystem2 ‘sidecar’ expansion so can also still use SNAC / Cartridges.

Our goal is to have both MT32pi & Floppy function at the same time (or other SNAC carts + floppy)

We plan to make some enhancements to the FPGA core too.

We have plenty of I/O on MMS2 😁

either that or im just gonna buy a mt32pi for $30

question, it seems really easy and cheap to build my own MT32Pi by ordering the parts, but for some reason i don't know where to get the PCBs at

anyone know how to even go about that

Yeah the Amiga core is really good as well, and the MT32pi works with it as well. But anyway back to topic, it really does amaze me that Commodore stuck so much capable hardware in those things. When I am trying to build comparable PCs you do need so much tech, sometimes for a lesser experience.

an MT 32 is awesome! I have an SC-55 though. Mt32Pi fills the gap.

Yeah, you can't use that for a USB port, like it says. I have an MT32pi MIDI plugged into that port.

Massive thanks to Michel who not only posed the question "can my MiniDexed EuroRack PCB also run MT32-Pi" but then proceeded to figure out how and to send me the instructions :)

Now all written up here: https://diyelectromusic.com/2025/04/07/mt32-pi-on-my-eurorack-minidexed-pcb/

it's really nice having a normal mister because they're way smaller than you may anticipate, they're pocket size. there's a chance after you get one you'll be like "wish I could've added an mt32pi hat" or wired mouse/keyboard for DOS or jamma or mistercast and regret lacking the ports

Been messing with the MiSTer again lately; the 486 computer core has come a long way since the last time I’d checked. Installed and configured DOS 6.22, and even went so far as to buy a kit that emulates the venerable Roland MT-32 using a Raspberry Pi. My DOS games sound incredible now!

I am looking forward to revisiting this and X-Wing on MiSTer with an MT32pi and a USB flight stick. I watched some videos online, and it runs brilliantly.

I looked through the manual and in game and didn't spot anything (the manual is shared with the MSX2 version but I didn't see midi). I was just curious. I've got to get an MT32Pi set up for my MiSTer and old pcs

eventually when i get my SuperStation one in, i want to convert this project into a portable FPGA emulator without going full analog pocket. I got a MT32pi built and ready to go, figure out how to merge that all into one thing also.

My 486 PC is honestly pretty damned peak and it's a shame I don't get to tinker on it more often (I've since replaced the speakers with vintage JBLs I got from Goodwill for $2) #msdos #retrocomputing #retrogaming

I'm late for the #retrogaming party. Again.

First was when I discovered the #mt32pi - an emulator of the legendary Roland MT-32 MIDI device, that nobody could afford, but was supported by a number of awesome games back in the late #80s / early #90s. Dale Winham, the developer behind it, threw […]

I wanted to use the mt32-pi as well but it doesn’t support the SC55-SC88-etc emulator which is another thing I use a lot, so I just ended using my lab PC as a big-ass MIDI emulator.
The MT32pi already supports an external LCD to use as an MT32 LCD, btw. I really hope someone adds SC support to it

The X68K core used to have to be setup on a secondary SD card and that was a pain in the ass.

I have split TI99/4a roms that don't work worth a shit either. Need to fix that bs.

Can't think of any other issues I personally have aside from finding software that uses the MIDI [MT32Pi].
