Some incredible news. The YAMAHA MU2000, considered the pinnacle of the Yamaha XG range of MIDI synths along with the SW1000XG soundcard, is now available as a VSTi; the S-MU2000. In theory(!) you can download and use this today. I have been waiting decades for this! github.com/tarboh/S-MU2... (1/2)

This is what music production looks like in 2026. "a pain in the arse with a lot of friction" -- anon.

Every time i learn about a rompler or synthesizer i realize that my Yamaha MU2000 and Roland SC88 sound just as good or better for most stuff i use romplers for. Ok maybe the JV sounds are pretty good but like.. everything else basically sounds the same

Yamaha MU2000 with DX, VL, and SG Expansion

MIDI was huge in the 90s. The MIDI file used here is a 64-channel demonstration provided by Yamaha, to show the sounds of the MU2000 and the optional plugin boards when combined together. Amazingly, the file is just 61KB!

I did compress the Yamaha MU2000 one though, because those grids are mostly empty gray space - who wants to print that? Made it look like the Roland ones.

It's a nice day to be working on music in the studio

After thoroughly reviewing my performance and productivity last year, i've decided to update the prices of my commission sheet
Good news for future clients; the prices have been reduced to their pre-2024 levels!

I've been playing some of the YAMAHA VL-XG demos with this and man... VL is so fun. Shame this software got discontinued so rapidly, it was ahead of its time.

Would be really cool to pair the S-YXG100plus & S-MU2000 VSTis together in a daw to achieve in effect an MU2000+PLG100VL+PLG100SG.

But that's not all. The SYXG100 softsynth, unusable after Win98, has also been reborn by emulating its VL, PVL & SG expansion support and cobbling it together with the pre-existing SYXG50 VSTi. So there is now an SYXG100 VSTi too, for all intents and purposes!

Looking to get an XG-based sound module someday! Which would you recommend (aside from, say, the prohibitively expensive MU2000)?

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!!!
I FIXED MY YAMAHA MU2000EX!
Turns out the opitcal cable wasn't fully in, that's why there was no sound!
How silly of me
Yes it was like that for years, that's why you haven't heard new MU2000 music from me lately

I wanna make some S.S.H. inspired songs now lol
