Are you already using a Mac or switching? Macs last forever, but kinda expensive upfront. Refurbished ones are reliable, but they're not THAT much cheaper.
I use a higher end iMac for design work, ~$1,000. Personally had bad experiences with MacMinis, but this was like 2012. Cheap but underpowered.

Ich habe noch ein AMD Ryzen AI Max mit 128GB ~günstig geschossen. Darauf läuft mittels Llama.cpp ebenfalls das Qwen3.6 35B. Im Idle läuft die Maschine mit 6 Watt, bei Last mit 120 Watt. Alte MacMinis mit ~10-30 Watt halten Agents, RAG und SearxNG. Qwen3.6 ist echt beeindruckend.

The designer, Paul Staal, needs to put this into limited production for MacMinis and MacMiniPros. Given my M4 Pro dock was £129 I'm pretty sure he could turn a profit at £200. Needs lots of peripheral connections and an SSD enclosure and it's good to go.

Braucht man wirklich nicht. Ich habe lediglich eine etwas teurere Maschine für lokale KIs. Die ist im WireGuard VPN freigegeben und greife mit einem sexy 150,-€ MacBook Air 11 Zoll von 2015 drauf zu. Dazu zwei Intel MacMinis zu je 100,- für RAG, SearxNG etc.. Alles mit Debian - reicht.

Ich bin ja immer noch unentschieden, aber irgendwie wäre das Ding schon schnuckelig so als potentieller Ersatz des 13jährigen, mittlerweile öfter mal rumzickenden Server-MacMinis. Wenn da nicht die nur 8GB RAM wären (nicht aufrüstbar).

Ich bin ja immer noch unentschieden, aber irgendwie wäre das Ding schon schnuckelig so als potentieller Ersatz des 13jährigen, mittlerweile öfter mal rumzickenden Server-MacMinis. Wenn da nicht die nur 8GB RAM wären (nicht aufrüstbar).
Ich glaube, bei den neuen M4 MacMinis könnte ich über kurz oder lang schwach werden.

No, ah, but... you see, Apple... and MacMinis are relatively cheap... and while those replying to you are being optimistic, desktop Linux does appear to be easier than it was... and... well... yeah, I figure you're probably right, but I'm interested to see what it would take to make you wrong.

Yeah resolution fine… was more whether any reports of MacMinis killing things being powered by it o’er USB-C / TB. As soon as I plugged this one there was a distinct “it just died” smell. (Prev used fine on Pi3, Pi4, Trashcan MacPro and i7 MBPro, but o’er USB2/3 type A sockets)

Excellent! I've been ogre'ing my way to learn how to selfhost on Hetzner. Have you done anything with Cloudflare Tunnels and a home server? I've got a couple of spare MacMinis that I could reuse, but struggling on how to make it a Coolify server.
