An ultra-magnified perspective reveals a jet-black ant that looks less like a backyard bug and more like a high-end luxury sports car. It boasts a chassis polished to a mirror shine, reflecting bright white highlights right off its glossy cranium. Our six-legged commuter is traversing a landscape of chaotic, dense green moss and hairy gray carpet fibers. The scenery resembles an overgrown rainforest floor crossed with the bottom of an unvacuumed closet. A jagged, shadowy overhang of mossy bark looms directly above, creating a dramatic, cave-like canopy. This isn't just any bug; it's a heavyweight champion of the insect world. Carpenter ants are some of the largest in North America, with workers ranging from 6 to 13 mm, and queens reaching a whopping 25 mm—essentially a one-inch powerhouse. It has a large, dull black head equipped with elbowed (bent) antennae that act like sophisticated chemical sensors. Notice the classic "ant waist" (petiole)—a single, narrow segment connecting its smooth, rounded thorax to a bulbous abdomen. Its abdomen is covered in fine, yellowish-white hairs that give it a slightly fuzzy but dignified appearance. Despite the name "carpenter," they don’t actually eat wood. They just "excavate" it to build their nests, dumping the sawdust outside like tiny, messy construction workers.

Got a great suggestion that led me to macrolight, a ~2kb super basic syntax/keyword highlighter. This made me rethink my whole approach.

Syntax highlighting in Kinopio doesn't need vscode-level accuracy – speed matters more here.
