El Servicio Geológico Colombiano (SGC) reportó un sismo de magnitud 4,0 en el municipio de Chaparral, departamento del Tolima, ocurrido este jueves 8 de octubre a las 4:23 p. m. El movimiento telúrico tuvo una profundidad superficial, menor a 30 kilómetros, con coordenadas de 3,84 grados de latitud y -75,58 grados de longitud. El epicentro se ubicó a 14 kilómetros de San Antonio, 19 kilómetros de Roncesvalles y 17 kilómetros de Chaparral. Casi 20 minutos después, se registró otro sismo de magnitud 2,7, ubicado a 12 kilómetros de Chaparral. Además, desde las 12:26 de la madrugada de este mismo día, se han presentado aproximadamente 20 movimientos telúricos con magnitudes iguales o superiores a 2,0. Estos registros se suman a la actividad sísmica constante que desde el 20 de septiembre se concentra en Chaparral, donde el SGC ha identificado más de mil eventos sísmicos. La actividad sísmica en Chaparral ocurre semanas después del sismo de magnitud 7,4 registrado el 10 de agosto de 2026 en San José del Palmar, Chocó. Los reportes de percepción del sismo llegaron desde varias ciudades: en Bogotá se sintió leve en el piso 7 y en el piso 14; en Ibagué, Cali (en el sur y en algunos sectores), Sevilla, Soacha y Jamundí. En Cali, los usuarios reportaron desde un movimiento suave hasta uno fuerte en el sur de la ciudad. El SGC ha señalado que una parte importante de estos movimientos tiene profundidades menores a 30 kilómetros, correspondientes a 'sismicidad cortical'. La gobernadora del Tolima, Adriana Magali Matiz, ha expresado que 'el país no está preparado con sistema de gestión del riesgo' ante este tipo de eventos. La noticia destaca la importancia de la vigilancia sísmica y la necesidad de mejorar los sistemas de prevención y respuesta ante desastres naturales en Colombia.
