ever since i saw a large scaled reproduction of the red flag that flew over Tijuana, Mexico after a Magonista insurrection, i have a soft spot for it. it also said, "tierra y libertad" on it.

On #tdih in 1911, Magonistas, Mexican anarchists, took the city of Mexicali in the first of battle of the Magonista Rebellion of 1911.

The Magonista uprising was an early incident of the more broad period of unrest known as the Mexican Revolution.

OTD in anarchist history, we remember The Baja Rebellion aka the Magónista Rebellion when about 30 militants from the Partido Liberal Mexicano, (PLM) took the city of Mexicali. PLM forces would grow to about 500 strong including Mexican workers, Indigenous people & IWW members from the US.

An insurrecto in Tijuana during the Magonista rebellion of 1911, they were the fighting wing of the Partido Liberal Mexicano/Mexican Liberal Party (actually an anarcho-communist party) and was primarily made up of IWW members, mercenaries, and escaped criminals.

Today in #LaborHistory 6/22/1911: 2nd Battle of #Tijuana ended with govt victory over #anarchist #Magonista #rebellion. Many members of #IWW participated. Many of those IWW members later participated in #SanDiego #FreeSpeech fight.
