We've had this exchange before, but my shul is based on where your cousin goes, including the Maharat grad and (finally) a third mehitza section for anyone who doesn't fit the other two.

(I think that we're going to begin having Torah reading open to all genders soon as well, perhaps by next month)

I think that Judaism always has space to improve regarding women't voices but I grew up with both Nechama Leibovitz and Judith Hauptman as respected voices of Jewish learning.

(Some of this might be a bit self selecting: my rabbi is a Maharat and my BIL's wife is in the program now)

You are a little bit out of touch, at least compared to someone who lives in New York City (me). The Open Orthodox women’s seminary (Maharat) continues to ordain 5-7 people yearly. There aren’t too many synagogues where they can be the rabbi. Many go into education or become educators in synagogues.

3) It is true that very recently because of a court ruling, non-orthodox conversions performed abroad are recognized in israel. It is not true that israeli law recognizes non-orthodox conversions, or even conversions by the wrong orthodox rabbis (eg from Y' Maharat), performed in israel

Our rabbi (a Maharat graduate) led a fantastic shiur this summer in which she went over the sources for mehitza and why she made a halakhic determination that a 3rd section is permissible (and therefore desirable for a minyan that wants to be as accessible as possible to all).

"A great ḥevruta becomes not only a thought partner who holds you accountable for your understanding and knowledge but also a friend, therapist, cheerleader, and teacher. At Maharat, your ḥevruta is also the person with whom you envision what it will mean for you to be a teacher and leader..."

Aish isn't my rabbi.

Rabbi Susan Hornstein of the Maharat program is.

There are many pathways to understanding the Torah.

There are even many pathways to understanding rabbinic motivations in the Talmud.

Accept that the pathway I am following for this conversation is different from your own.

The purpose of this minyan is to be as non judgemental a space as possible within the bounds of modern "open" orthodoxy. A BIG part of that is being a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQ+ Jews.

Our rabbi is a graduate of the Maharat program and she's great.

I'm pretty sure they teach it at both Hovevei Torah and Maharat, the two Open Orthodox rabbinical schools. I'm 75% sure that there's at least an opportunity to learn it at YU as well, though that might have been in the past.

Also, our rabbi is a woman and a graduate of the Maharat rabbinical school.

Good point!

I'd say that it matters whether a given rabbi/maharat/posek/poseket (etc) has a theology within which it is asserted that all of Israel is required to keep ritual laws today as a condition of the Brit AND that said Brit applies to future generations as much as past ones.
