#MailingLists
Restructuring & cleaning up more than 21 years of emails. Re-reading some of it. Seeing some of the cycles and patterns clearly.

Reading threads on mailinglists which have slowly gone quiet. Extinguished by Slack or social media. A few still going strong against the stream of the time […]

das sense of entitlement war vor allem schon immer so, selbst in den 80ern zu Freiherr-von-Gravenreuth-C64-Raubkopie-Mailinglists (physische Post!) Zeiten.

After seeing a couple of questions on different pages about mailing lists, here are some thoughts on the subject

When I moved away from Instagram, I tried to keep as many artists and craftspeople I could. Most I lost, but those with mailinglists I have kept. And it turns out, I don't need a very busy mailinglist, once a month is more than enough for me to not forget that artist exists so that I'll go and […]

Small Mailinglists with strong moderation and livejournal.
June 17, 2026 at 3:45 PM
oh i almost completely forgot about livejournal. that was the shit back in the day. i was on deadjournal if memory serves correctly.

i think i was too young for mailinglists tbqh. though they *are* fascinating.

what writers forum? do you recall what it was called?
June 17, 2026 at 3:43 PM
It was fandom mailing lists and livejournal for me. Smaller mailinglists with just a handful of active people and we later reconnected on lj. The fact that you could make posts public, friends-only or even curated group of friends was just perfect.

Second best was a writers'-forum.

USEnet. Kept me sane when I wasn't writing my first novel at a job I hated. Learned a lot there.

Shoutout to the mailinglists I started (the best of them based on Hypnodrone which closed some six months before I started.)

Early Twitter was still great.

Rancidity abounds now. (It's the money.)
Can I ask y’all a genuine question?

In all your life online, what’s the greatest social media you’ve ever used?

@ainmosni @homelab For VMs I have installed unattended-upgrades. Docker stuff I check once a week in portainer and TrueNAS if the image is out of date, or subscribe to announcement mailinglists and RSS feeds for critical stuff.

I have a question. Do you often subscribe to mailing lists?

Just watching Cris Z at FreakingGoodIndies podcast, and he's pushing the idea that mailing lists are the best communication channel

Sounds like they use different mailinglists for different purposes and they haven't updated the one with the logins (the one you would expect they try to be secure about). !!!!

Hope it can easily be solved

(In general, "transmission of a Mother of All Conspiracy Theories that is extremely heavily influenced by New Apostolic Reformation "satanic panic" and Deliverance Ministry tropes from the Mos Eisley of the Internet to NAR mailinglists and communities in four months" is sus at best.)

Who doesn’t remember the death threats encarta users used to get on mailinglists for ruining the environment

1. Maak een folder waar je al je mailinglists in dumpt. Ik deed dat door door een rule te maken die in de smtp header op zoek ging naar list-unsuscribe.
2. installeer the chrome plugin voor claude
3. log in in de webmail /1

As others have noted, the "8 million" figure is based on people who have explicitly registered for a No Kings march, and there are many who have attended who don't register (keeping off mailinglists, concern a list could be compromised by Dysadministration, and so on)
