One unexpected perk to this treatment, you're starting to find out, is that it will save you much training. It hadn't been your goal. The removal itself, although unfortunate from an aesthetic point of view, was mainly to help your pet stay isolated from the outside world. With no sounds beyond a vague, distorted haze, and most of its awareness of space gone besides, it has no way of knowing what is being said to it, above it, about it. The first, you can express just as well with your hands and face, and the rest it is far better off not worrying about. Beautiful and sweet and devoid of the preoccupations of actual people, and just having it at your side, just petting it brings you a calm, deep feeling of peace, as if the emptiness of its mind sucked up all of your own worries. A reminder that one's mind can be thus emptied, but that you would much rather be here. That you made the choice to grip the world with your own two hands. (As well as its collar, of course.) This had been the goal, but now that the distress and confusion of the first few days has settled down, you've noticed an unexpected side effect. With its balance so affected, while it will still eagerly follow after you if you pull it along while walking, it avoids being on its feet for any independent movement, and prefers to stay close to the floor. Scooting on its knees for a few feet, going on hands and knees for medium distances, and shunning any longer movements unless expressly ordered to. Which is precisely where you wanted it anyway. Surely its balance will adapt with time. But by then, this will have become second nature, and without you having had to go through a long training process. You grip its chin and tilt its head up to look at you, smile as it blinks the confusion and the dizziness at the sudden movement away. "Well, my dear," you coo, "you're adapting much better than I ever expected!" You rub your fingertips over the slightly fleshy nub where its horn used to be, and watch its eyes water at the feeling. "It's like it was meant to be!" Truly, this was your best idea yet.

this little sketch is based on a conversation I had with Mel (@alzane.bsky.social) about how Paprika would react to Niners w/ his hair down! to which Mel said that she'd want to brush and then braid his hair so here is said scene Paprika is gently brushing out Niners' long hair until it's all silky and pretty, while chatting with him about something. Niners is sitting all relaxed, his eyes closed, as he enjoys the nice brushing of his locks. Both are dressed in casual clothes - Paprika is wearing a simple top that buttons at the collar and slightly lower that the collar, with a cozy mint-colored cardigan resting off her shoulders. She doesn't have her glasses here as this is happening during a spa day. Niners is wearing a button up shirt (that he left unbuttoned), his favorite earring (menphina's earring). There's also a towel resting around his neck, both ends hiding underneath the shirt. a sketch version of the same piece.
