The common tactic we can see in the last ten years is that mixed-race politicians who claim Black international/ or African heritage are "not really Black" -- so as to dissuade Black Americans from supporting them.

The fact that Cuomo is doing better than Mamadani among women, black, and Hispanic voters is a result of the fact that the Establishment Democrat label has cache among those groups (see also: 2016, 2020). That Cuomo is identified as such is a result of the failure of NY electeds to ostracize him.
