Only mammals have a diaphragm.
Weirdly, it's attached to your heart.

Talk about a weird flex:
When you breathe, consciously or not, you're flexing a muscle, the thoracic diaphragm, and it's this motion that fills your lungs.

Like all muscles, it attaches to an anchor point. In this case, the pericardial sac around your heart via the pericardiacophrenic ligament.

Like, you probably know this at some level, but let's make it explicit:

"Mammal" derives from Latin 'mamma', which meant 'breast or teat'. So mammals are primarily defined as "milk-producers" using a pre-existing /related/ word.

What I'm saying is: we're named for boobs.
