It's always something like this and never something like 'use AI to check whether a manager is sexually harassing a subordinate'. (Which, to be clear, is not a great idea either; my point is these tools are mainly seen by management as a way to exert tighter control over labor.)

Being a manager has made me such a killjoy about video game romances. My family/friends will be trying to make normal decisions about romance options and I'll be cringing at the end of the sofa going "noooo they're your subordinate that's messed up don't do it!"

An effective manager-subordinate relationship should be one of mutual respect based on frequently annoying the heck out of each other and believing the other is slightly unreasonable.

I was at DoD hoping to become a project manager. I watched my boss give it to my subordinate and as everyone in the office was gathered around he told me that he would have chose me but the job is in Saudi and they don’t allow women to work there. That was in 2015.

I end up being tight friends with a major overworker of a team leader/manager, and as a subordinate, see directly how the system doesn't adequately reward nor respect their efforts and sacrifices to keep things running behind the scenes

That’s fair. Without getting into the difference between the standards and the fact that the Supreme Court is not a court (HT: @espinsegall.bsky.social), it seems dumb that Trump is held to a much lower standard than a random business manager who fires a subordinate.

I’m a manager working in tech. You give stuff like this to a subordinate with the requisite technical expertise. This is just embarrassing.

If I were dictator, one of the first things I'd do would be to bring in mandatory horsewhippings for anyone using victimhood/bullying terminology when they're the one in the situation of power (ie any cop or security guard dealing with the public, any manager dealing with a subordinate, etc)
