William Fuller (1881-1964 👉ALT), “Strangler Fig”
‘- Its life was the death of beauty’
*Collier’s*, July 12, 1947
#WilliamFuller #AdventureFiction #Romance #illustrationart #illustrationartists #JohnPike #MarioRubenCooper
full issue at https://archive.org/details/colliersmagazine ‘Born in Boston, raised in Central Florida, [Fuller] capitalized on his brief stint as an advertising creative in NY before the war & his life&death experiences as an infantryman in the Pacific Theatre to create a series of acclaimed short stories for Collier’s, Fortune & Esquire that established him as an author of substance before tackling his 1st novel, Back Country, set in Central Florida in the 1950’s. The 1st of 6 Brad Dolan adventure stories, the book was an immediate success... Those who knew Bill felt like they already knew Brad. They were clearly cut from the same cloth. Fuller was an advertising exec in NYC, a merchant seaman, hobo, actor, model & behind enemy lines Infantry Captain in the Pacific in WW II. ...Florida’s West Coast in 1948 opened his eyes to the colorful tapestry that was Florida & the Islands in the 50’s & 60’s. This was his stomping ground & much of what Brad Dolan experienced was William Fuller’s story without the boundaries of convention.' - braddolan.com
