She, at the time, was Mark E. Smith's wife. The album was a harbinger of what was to come with The Fall moving from the punk of their early albums to the "wonderful and frightening" sound of this one and This Nation's Saving Grace coming soon.

Irresistible Autumn has arrived, and here too is The Fall…

Pamela Vander, the fiancée and final manager of Mark E Smith, has publicly criticized The Fall's upcoming album 'Post Script' as a 'cash grab' and 'ethically wrong', stating that it misrepresents the band's legacy. The album, set for release on October 2 through Cog Sinister, features unused studio vocals recorded by Smith between 2001 and 2014, with former band members Ed Blaney and Simon 'Ding' Archer adding new music after his death. Vander clarified that Smith had decided 'New Facts Emerge' (2017) would be the band's final album, and none of the vocals on 'Post Script' were recorded after that release. She argued that the album should not be marketed as The Fall's 'final' record, as it contradicts Smith's own decision. Vander also questioned the ownership of the band name and suggested the recordings should be released under a different title, such as 'the Mark E Smith archive', rather than as The Fall. Blaney, a former band member and collaborator, defended the album, stating it was created 'out of love and respect' for Smith, emphasizing that Smith's vocals were recorded as The Fall and thus should be released under that name. The album's first single, '30 Degrees', was released in June, featuring Smith's archived vocals with new instrumentation. This controversy follows a 2022 incident where former Fall members formed a new band called House Of All, which Smith's family rejected as 'extremely offensive'. The Fall released 31 studio albums during Smith's lifetime, with 'New Facts Emerge' being the last before his death in 2018. Vander, who was Smith's partner for his final three years and his carer, highlighted the complexity of managing Smith's legacy, noting his disorganization regarding his artistic estate. The band's legacy, described by NME as having 'crafted a complex literary voice', remains a subject of debate following Smith's passing.
