Read this thread. But in my view, there are some scenarios that are rendered unavailable when there is a 2:1 electoral blowout. x.com/MarkGaleotti...

In Moscows Shadows 175

@MarkGaleotti on top form in a macro look at Russian strategic thinking.

My view: Russia has been an obvious threat since at least ‘45. There are no excuses for those who have taken the ruble; Farage, Johnson, Banks. All three ultimately involved in weakening us.

@markgaleoitti Has the Ukrainian counteroffensive into Kursk dented Putin’s popularity in Russia?
I did find this interesting: content analysis by @FilterLabs finds opinions towards Putin continuing to slump on Russian social media. 1/2

@MarkGaleotti good piece. But on Osprey, where is the line between military history nerd and history-based RPG nerd?

Ahead of the publication of 'Forged in War: A military history of Russia from its beginnings to today' in paperback on Thursday, we're looking back on an interview @MarkGaleotti did for Aspects of History when the hardback was released.

Galeotti is getting it right. My guess: Putin won‘t show up in Istanbul. No way. He may send a clown like Medvedev or Medinsky. Zelensky will be there, thus making European leaders (again) looking like impotent fools. Trump, from the very beginning, is making everything worse.

@SkyNews: Has the world forgotten Ukraine?

@MarkGaleotti sees a shift of attention to Israel, but doesn't think it has yet been forgotten about. He says 'Ukraine's friends and government are now beating the drum for attention' to avoid this.

Interesting podcast from @MarkGaleotti on Putin's "personal" security agencies, mainly the Rosgvardiya. Galeotti argues that they are not as strong as it seem at first glance and that their capacities are on the brink of overstretch.
