I love that today's #MathArtMarch is Swirly. Here's one of my hand marbled papers, which shows a super tricky design , dubbed the Galen after creator Galen Berry. I think that it could be classified as a glide reflection design. Certainly not perfect but it's got the structure? thoughts?

Wasn’t sure what do post for day 3 of #MathArtChallenge #MathArtMarch -Nature- until I saw @baabbbaash.bsky.social day 1 post. Perfect inspiration.

#MathArtMarch day 2: On a square grid

I generally shy away from daily prompts. However I find @ayliean.bsky.social pretty irresistible. Hence #MathArtMarch Day 1 Circles. This is a bubble print , where you can see the 120 degree angles that form where three bubbles meet.

For sure! I see it fitting with the following #MathArtMarch prompts: Growth, Symmetry, Repetition, or How Many. Which one were you thinking of?

Here is a photo of our dog Cosmo and his many Eigenfaces (eigenvectors) and its reconstruction.
Which, in my opinion, is far more beautiful and mysterious than the Mona Lisa :)

This encouraged me to go through the MathArtMarch tag...I may not understand the math, but I appreciate the passion + art.

Day 2 of #MathArtMarch using the prompts by @ayliean.bsky.social Today was "on a square grid." I decided to sketch on my iPad using Notability because it had a built-in square grid template that I could change the background color on (from white to black). I had a lot of fun just playing around!

Day 20 #MathArtMarch Repetition

The Lizard Infinity puzzle is an Escher inspired tiling puzzle made of lizard pieces. Each lizard is morphed such that every one is different, but the entire puzzle still forms a morphing gradient tiling

Day 19 #MathArtMarch “42”

Maya, who works in the studio, threw together a quick one for today. A 42 piece puzzle

Day 17 #MathArtMarch Symmetry

The Eclipse puzzle has a symmetric cut allowing you to progressively flip pieces to slowly eclipse the sun

Day 16 #MathArtMarch Connected

The Neuron puzzle features watercolor art by David Goodsell illustrating the cellular machinery of a neuron. The cut is made of macro puzzle pieces which each contain a neuron piece which together make their own mini puzzle

Day 14 #MathArtMarch Irrational:

The Challenge puzzle is a two in one puzzle where the colored pieces scattered throughout the larger puzzle form their own sub puzzle. It also has no image and no hard boundary, so you'd have to be irrational to want to try it

Day 13 #MathArtMarch Zero:

For zero I figure I would post the very first puzzle we ever made from 2011 🥺

What an absolute mess this puzzle is 😜. We have made so many improvements to our process, but it's kind of amazing to look back at where we started

Day 12 #MathArtMarch On an Iso Grid:

This shows rotating an unfolded icosahedral mapping of the globe for our Earth Puzzle

I missed all of last week but I'll try to catch up: 11 Proof.

We cut our puzzles slightly off the bed and use an ordering algorithm based on the concept of shellability to ensure (prove!) that no piece falls before it's cut.

Day 8 #MathArtMarch Pentagon

Had to whip something up for this. A puzzle on a pentagon grid.

Day 10 #MathArtMarch Map:

The Earth Puzzle! An icosahedral projection of the earth which is endlessly reconfigurable. The puzzle is grown on a 3D icosahedron and then unrolled flat so that it is topological a sphere with no edges.

Day 9 #MathArtMarch Growth. Many of our puzzle cuts are based on models of growth. For Maze we simulate a network of growing elastic rods that collide and intertwine. Read more about the puzzle cut systems here:

Day 7: How many?

How many cats can we fit into this puzzle? We used a packing algorithm to fit as many cat pieces as possible into this cat themed puzzle

Day 4, swirly. The Ammonite puzzle! Featuring a photo of an Ammonite fossil. The puzzle cut is generating by a simulation of dendritic solidification, which was inspired by our research into how Ammonite suture patterns form
