This 2022 restoration of this Max Fleischer Color Classic not only restored one of the best theatrical post-code Fleischer cartoons, but it was one of the first in a continuous wave of new official Fleischer restorations.

I didn't have the time this month to post any new writing, but I will repost my last October round-ups for those who may have missed them: here is a lengthy post detailing many of the Halloween-appropriate Fleischer Studio cartoons.
Halloween Animation: Fleischer
Animators, filmmakers, inventors, producers, brothers Max and Dave Fleischer are best known for the animated works produced by the studio bearing their family name, but Fleischer Studios didn&#8217…

As a fellow James, I think you will dig this: I had a dream about my family sitting in front of the fireplace and suddenly we were bouncing in a Max Fleischer cartoon when the fireplace started singing the Surfers’ tribute to Jimi Hendrix “Soil me. Soil ALL of me.”
A tongue rolled out of the fire…

Whether it's the days of Max Fleischer and the Ko-Ko Sound Car-Tunes to even modern works like Mystery Skulls, it really just delights me that you can take inspiration and make something totally new and unique by blending and innovating such drastically different mediums.

Max and Dave Fleischer were pressured to produce features after the success of Disney's Snow White. Their first, Gulliver's Travels, while risky to produce, made okay returns, their second feature (Mr. Bug Goes to Town) was released before the Pearl Harbor bombing, and Fleischers shut down

I had a dream about flying down to hell in a bouncy Max Fleischer cartoon through a fireplace on an unrolled tongue that turned into a magic carpet with my parents as the Surfers played ‘Jimi’ once.

Gibby here. Gibby there.
Does he even know he does that?

so many Max Fleischer cartoons were just out-and-out WEIRD. How about a light-hearted cartoon about pulling a switch that destroys the Earth? www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLuy...

I’m not saying that Max Fleischer predicted a certain American tyrant but this humpty dumpty built a wall, was a greedy man obsessed with wealth, didn’t listen to someone with more experience, and looked directly at the sun. Just saying

The Rocketeer should be in style of a Max Fleischer Superman cartoon.

Superman (1941) teaches comparatives 🦸 “Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive!” Short word → -er. Long word → more. Never both: ❌ more faster ✅ faster

It’s an inside joke from one Majer (later Max) Fleischer, who was born to a tailor in Krakow, and came of age in Brownsville, Brooklyn, when it was the domain of poor Jewish factory workers.

In Max and Richard Fleischer, was father like son?
Spare a thought for Mr. Boop’s bald spot — or is it a yarmulke? In Max Fleischer’s 1932 cartoon “Minnie the Moocher,” Betty Boop is shown at home, harangued by her heavily-accented immigrant parents. ...

This is the first Bimbo cartoon to feature Halloween. He gets the "scared straight" business after trying to steal a chicken.

The Jewish caricature is a reference to Jewish-American comedian Max Davidson.

Koko the Clown goes to 1999

Not very funny, but certainly an interesting view of 1999. I was there, I don't remember 1999 being like this at all🤔
