Yes, and MaximumPC had all the best builds and chip manurafturer updates. Also Macy's had a toy department. And so did Gimbels. Which existed.

Dad used to get Boot/MaximumPC mag, which always had a demo disk with 6+ decent length demos on it.
I think that's how i got the Fallout Demo (still the best demo I've ever played) and a few great early FPSs
