Bonsoir hookland. The mayflys have appeared at the banks of the orge now that we have a proper canicule. Less than a fortnight ago, as the ice saints passed, they were still nowhere to be seen ! Sleep cool .

I believe the first photo is the shed exoskeleton of a mayfly. It is about 4mm in length (body, not tail).
The second photo is the mayfly just after it emerged and has now flown away leaving behind the exoskeleton.
I think mayflys only live a few days.

I have not been on top of my art game but I just knocked those two out. I also drew the Mayflys... Mayflies...? but their drawing is a lot less detailed so whatever will draw them again some other time.

Pretty sure I knew how to spell all those words, especially my own surname.

I know im late, but, is there any deuvertebrate that stops developing at an early stage? maybe lives as a polyp and then only develops into the adult form for reproduction in a similar way to mayflys?
