It's #FossilFriday! @ McWane w/forepaw of giant ground sloth, Megalonyx (named for, well, the huge claws). ~11k, late Pleistocene. I helped collect it fr. NW Alabama cave in '85 (I was 21 years old.) Mounted cast whole skeleton is on display at #McWane.

Very cool to see the UAB Comprehensive Neuroscience Center leading the charge in communicating neuroscience to our local communities in a variety of formats. Last week we reached over 3,000 people as part of #BrainAwarenessWeek activities with the McWane Science Center (@mcwanescience.bsky.social).
New publication in #JNeurosci from our outreach team, led by Associate Director for Outreach Dr. Kristina Visscher! This paper outlines many of the CNC efforts to communicate science to our community.

A beautifully preserved bothremydid turtle from the Late Cretaceous Mooreville chalk of west Ala. We collected it in the late 1990s, and it's now on display at @Mcwane
w/many more wonderful fossils. (The specimen was found lying on its back plastron up.) Splendid specimen.

Attended a volunteer training session today at the McWane Science Center, run by the director of STEM ed, for UAB's Brain Awareness Week activities next week. I've done a lot of community outreach/edu over the years, & this was the first time we got structured training in STEM education 💯
