Mealybug destroyers (Cryptolaemus montrouzieri) are (unfortunately) nonnative ladybugs that do exactly what their common name implies: they hunt and eat mealybugs. Their larval stage looks JUST like a mealybug. Great ambush predator. 😄
While not native, they are definitely welcome in my garden. 🌿🐞

Existe uma joaninha chamada Mealybug Destroyer/Destruidora de cochonilhas. Apesar do nome forte, ela tem uma carinha fofa de quem não entende nada, ela só vai lá e come sua comida. Está distribuída em quase todos os continentes, mas é nativa da Austrália.

It was something of a surprise to find Cryptolaemus montrouzieri (Mealybug Ladybird) last week in Rennes! From Choisya around a P&R car park! I found them with Rhyzobius lophanthae (Bristly LB) and R. forestieri (Forestier's LB). #Coccinelle #Ladybird #MicroLadybird #France
