I think the Internet has had both positive and negative effects on democracy. It gives people access to information and a way to share their opinions. However, misinformation spreads quickly and can make it hard to know what is trustworthy. #Media180FA26D06

The Internet requires some regulation, but making platforms responsible for every post could limit free expression. The history of radio shows that media have long been regulated, so the challenge is finding a balance between government oversight and freedom of speech. #Media180FA26D06

Specialized music spaces aren't gone; they just exist on online platforms. This digital shift has made making music by indie artists much easier as free platforms and algorithms (TikTok, etc) can circulate their music instead of exclusive music scenes centralized in specific areas. #Media180FA26D06

The internet and social media have a dual impact on democracy. While they empower people they drive political division. Many believe social media harms democracy because platforms prioritize engagement over truth which makes us ignore other opinions and splits us into opposite teams.

Gramophone labeling let fans identify and follow their favorite artists. Similarly, video games let players follow their favorite titles and characters. Both turned entertainment preferences into shared interests, helping young people form communities and shape their identities. #Media180FA26D06

I think surveillance capitalism is a violation of our privacy because companies collect a lot of our personal information just to make money. Personalized ads can be useful, but most people probably don’t realize how much of their data is being tracked and used. #Media180FA26D06

I think that surveillance capitalism is a harming one's privacy and is a horrible feature in our today's society. Today, There are several companies like Google, Amazon and facebook who profit from out personal data. By doing so they violate our privacy and sell it online. #Media180FA26D06

I think the Internet should be more regulated because the Internet has become a space to communicate. If they abolish section 230 it would cause harm to diversity of voices online and restricts the ability of ordinary people to share ideas or to participate in public conversations. #Media180FA26D06

The gramophone was just as important to youth culture as gaming consoles are today. Much like people attending the same concert or listening to the same record together, online and multiplayer functions allow video gamers to connect with each other at home or even across the world. #Media180FA26D06

The internet should absolutely have more regulation. People these days are so comfortable hiding behind screens, saying whatever they want without a care. This is harmful, causing many false rumors and misinformation to spread. Section 230 doesn't do enough to protect users. #Media180FA26D06

Survilence capitalism as our technological affordances grew only gave more power to corporations. it’s a huge violation of privacy with not enough media literacy to tackle it. Influencers are like mini salesmen dressed as someone “relatable”. the movie “Snowden“ is a great example

I believe the Internet has both positive and negative in fact on democracy. It gives people quick access to political information and allows people to share their views. however, misinformation can spread quickly and influence voters. Overall, its impact depends on how it’s used. #Media180FA26D06

Streaming services have reduced the need for local scenes as they give people instant access to all kinds of music. Artists can now bypass label representation and sell their music directly to listeners on a global scale, encouraging the development of international artists.

The Internet engages us in political & social life, helps address issues & injustice, learn about policies. But, the info we see can be a manipulation, promoting certain agenda. With AI it is harder to identify disinformation. Without fact checking, we risk to fall into confusion.

Streaming has given artists the ability to reach listeners anywhere, but this accessibility blurs the sounds of specific areas, making it harder for a place to have a distinct sound. At the same time online exposure helps indie artists build audiences &keep local music scenes alive. #Media180FA26D06

I believe payola still exists but it's changed with technology. Instead of relying on radio stations, big artists and labels can use streaming playlists, social media, and different online exposure to expand their audience. This can make it harder for independent artists to be seen. #Media180FA26D06

Section 230 should stand but there has to be Democratic oversight. Crowd-checking real-time info is one tactic. This does not curtail free speech, but rather creates checks. It has been shown X's community notes increases the chance of the post being deleted by its creator. #Media180FA26D06

Section 230 should be abolished because those platforms and service providers are not responsible for uncensored content posted on sites. It’s wrong because children can see.Shouldn’t have a detrimental effect on free speech because we are able to speak up and post whatever we want. #Media180FA26D06

Internet has a positive effect on democracy because it makes it easier to access information about different political topics. Users have access to a large amount of information, both true and false which helps us form our own opinions about different political and social issues. #Media180FA26D06

The biggest audience you can reach is through your screens now and the internet has given us a power of unity, creating a large setting where we as citizens have access to view information from around the world that without the internet, we would lose access to major information. #Media180FA26D06
