having a linguistics degree is great for when someone across the room makes an offhand joke about the plural of ‘moose’ and i get to swoop down like a barn owl and explain that the actual reason it isn’t ‘meese’ is because there were no moose in the British Isles
One reason to learn about things outside your major is so that you have something to talk about with people at parties and on dates. No amount of money will make up for you being a crushing bore. History majors learn this early but I guess it takes other people longer.

Fun fact: I'm reading Alex Wagner's 'The Steal', and learned that Edwin Meese worked the mayonnaise counter at Durkee's early in his life. And also that there was such a thing as a "mayonnaise counter".
