#MegaFires
he long-awaited @ulresearchinst.bsky.social report on the Los Angeles fires confirmed longstanding critiques of the reponses in Pacific Palisades and Altadena, but the big takaway was the extent to which modern firefighting is being outstripped by megafires. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/02/u...
Powerful Wildfires Require a New Approach, California Report Finds
A report on the fires that devastated the Los Angeles area in early 2025 recommended that local governments take a broader approach to preparedness and emergency response.

imagine living in massive scale steel wool and you always have to stay in the Goldilocks zone of heat inbetween various glittering cascading megafires throughout the vast wad. you have to set up camp each night and hope the fires don't die before you wake, stranding you in a freezing oxidised desert

Idiocy.
Claiming more CO2 is good is dangerous nonsense.

CO² isn't just plant food, it's a planetary thermostat turned to FRY. The slight "greening" is already being erased by megafires and extreme heat. Excess carbon is turning to carbonic acid in oceans and killing the marine food chain.

This is an excellent piece on how landowners can rewild just a section of their farms or ranches to create havens for wildlife, retain water, prevent megafires, and still make a living. 👇🏻💦🦅🐟

#OilAndGas production is a leader driver of #ClimateChange. It fuels superstorms, megafires, and droughts that harm people, degrade habitat and push wildlife from polar bears to butterflies towards extinction.

Ok, but some controlled wildfires are better than more massive megafires.
They are natural and external processes require them regularly to occur.

It would be too comforting to imagine that summers marked by...worsening heat waves, megafires, and landslides constitute a kind of new normal: a revised baseline that societies can adapt to in some straightforward, linear fashion. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case
