I made a lil video to show how you get to my shop/studio/gallery from highway 117, and give you a little peek inside! It's only two minutes long.

(Let's not talk about my camera and Final Cut skills, okay? They need work.)

The path to the shop (in fall).

Photo of a sidewalk that leads between two trees to some small white buildings about fifty feet away. Fall leaves are all over the ground and a few are on the path, evergreen bushes are in front of the buildings, and autumn trees rise up into the sky behind the small white buildings.

Photo of a dress mannequin wearing a black t shirt and skirt, wearing a glittery crown that says HELL NO!, and “holding” a large sign that says, “JULY 1776 patriots decided against a king with immunity from the law.” The background is a crowded wall of a shop covered in paintings and part of some other protest signs are visible at the edge of the photo.

Working on a new set of these again, because every time I paint more, people come in and buy them! 😅

Yes, even here in Alabama!

#Handmade #NoFascistUSA #Y’allMeansAll #Magnets #SmallBusiness #BlueDotInARedState #TransRightsAreHumanRights #MentoneAlabama
Two small pieces of wood have been cut into roughly the shape of the state of Alabama, then painted with a diagonal rainbow (the gay pride flag) plus brown, black, light blue, white and light pink (for people of color and transgender folks). I have then painted the words “Y’all Means ALL,” and, “No Fascist USA” in white, which I will then outline with a darker color. Next, I glue a small magnet to the back of each one and paint my signature on the back. Then they’re varnished, dried, and ready to go!

I was delighted to see Debra Fey and Jerry Megli, who stopped by the shop to say hello with the Ukelele I painted for Jerry (one of the founders of the Mentone Ukes!)

My dad bought the separate parts and then built the #ukulele after I #painted the design on the body.

An elderly gentleman with long white hair and a cowboy hat, standing in my shop (in the background you can see lots of clothing, art on the walls, craft items, and lavender walls) and holding a ukelele with a design painted on the front along with the words “Mentone Ukes.”

White on black digital image (drawn by hand in Procreate) featuring a crystal ball containing the image of a witch looking down at her cellphone, surrounded by smaller images of a dagger, potion bottle, bundle of herbs, candle, crystals, a little toad wearing a big pair of over-the-ear headphones with a tiny witch hat strapped on to the band, and a broom with five white candles melting on it. At the top and bottom of the crystal ball are unfurled scrolls that read, “I FOUND A CURSE ON PINTEREST!” This was based on an offhanded but very funny comment made by Ash Kelley in an episode of the podcast Morbid. Purple, white and red image on a black background. White line art depicts a woman’s jawline and nose, red lips and then the long, wavy hair is all solid purple. Arranged over the image are the words, “I mean a purple-haired mom, who can relate?” This design was inspired by a nasty comment some kid made to me that I just found hilarious instead. As soon as I finished laughing I decided it needed to be a t-shirt for the purple-haired moms. It’s a hand-drawn fairly close facsimile of the illustration in a medieval manuscript, with the words “I About Died” in some old-timey calligraphy font in the center. It’s the first in a series of creative illustrations of southern sayings.

Some of the adorable crochet #amigurumi items available at my shop in #MentoneAlabama and at www.comingupviolets.com, made by Rebecca Benjamin.

Amigurumi (cute little crochet creatures and things) by Rebecca Benjamin. This one is three marshmallows on a “stick”. They each have a different expression on their “faces”. The last marshmallow on the stick is on fire and that one is frowning. Amigurumi (cute little crochet creatures and things) by Rebecca Benjamin. This one is a cute little smiley watermelon slice. Amigurumi (cute little crochet creatures and things) by Rebecca Benjamin. This one is a tiny chicken sitting on a nest, a yellow chick, and a little white egg. Amigurumi (cute little crochet creatures and things) by Rebecca Benjamin. This one is a blue dragon lovey or blankey. Basically there’s the head and spine of a dragon and the rest is just a very small square crocheted blanket. For small children to hold on to.

A stack of postcards with my original Watercolor painting of the view from Lookout Mountain across the Wills Valley to Sand Mountain and the slogan, “Leave Me In Mentone.” At the top, across the sunset, in black cursive it reads ‘Leave Me In’ with an orange oak leaf attached to the first letter and an orange maple leaf attached to the last letter, and the word MENTONE is at the bottom, outlined in black and filled in with yellow.
