At a May 27, 2026 Citizen Advisory Focus Group meeting, consultants read a draft vision for Merced's general plan and residents and CAFG members urged stronger commitments on affordable housing, environmental justice (SB1000), youth services, safety and city investment across neighborhoods. The CAFG asked consultants to revise the draft for a 30-day public review.

Consultants for the general plan update presented a four-paragraph draft vision statement and summarized outreach; commissioners recommended adding K-12 education references, downtown emphasis, and a nod to tech/ag‑tech and active transportation. The draft will go to City Council on Sept. 21.

Council adopted the FY2026‑27 budget (citywide $461.5M; General Fund $69.2M). Public advocates urged reallocating discretionary dollars to tenant relocation and eviction‑prevention programs; council approved the budget after debate, with one no vote.
