I thought of taking a note from the classic Sonic games, and make the ground-checking behaviour use simple cube collisions for performance, but refine the final position with a tile-specific equation that described the slopes.

Something like this, but in 3D?

A screenshot of SegaRetro's Sonic Physics Guide. It shows an image of 2D terrain, overlayed with simple curving and boxy shapes describing more or less detailed physics. The text reads: The data for each Block contains an index to an item in the Height Array, this index also for the item in an Angle Array. Inside a Metablock, Blocks can be set to 4 different types of solidity. Each Height Array contains 16 values, ranging from -16 to 16. when the value is above zero, it means how far we are away from the bottom, when it's negative it means how far we are away from the top. An array going right and left instead of up and down also exists, but this could be calculated automatically.

Now the main part of the application component spawns elements based on the gifView's internal blocks (really bad mix of business and UI logic but who cares, this is a tauri application that doesn't need to be sepearted strictly atm). And when I reassign the gif object, it also updates the elements.
