Entenmann's donuts. Eventually I had to stop that because once you hit 40, the metabolism isn’t outpacing the donuts.
what is a satisfying purchase as an adult
for me it was realizing i could just buy candy at any time
There is no adult purchase less satisfying than new tires.

Under a metabolism-first view of life (as opposed to the replication-first view favored by Dawkins), genes came late to the party.

The first time, it was months. But then I realized I was iron deficient- it turns out that covid messes with iron metabolism (pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...). Next time I took lactoferrin during covid, then lactoferrin and iron bisglycinate afterward. Things went so much better.
Anemia and iron metabolism in COVID-19: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Iron metabolism and anemia may play an important role in multiple organ dysfunction syndrome in Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate biom...

Actually CO2 is the most mass, and primary byproduct of respiration/metabolism.

We are not efficient machines, but when you consider the entire process (ingestion, digestion, metabolism, removal), what matters most is what precisely our body is doing during metabolism and how wastes get processed.

TaANT11‐4A enhances grain yield by orchestrating photosynthesis and carbohydrate metabolism through direct transcriptional activation
TaANT11-4A is a positive regulator of wheat grain size and yield, directly activating TaEGY2, TaAAE1, and TaAAE2 to enhance photosynthesis and carbohydrate metabolism. The favorable Hap2 haplotype in...

Sometimes I wish I could spend a week as a horny 22yo with a high metabolism, a personal trainer, and a bad relationship with his parents. I don’t think I’d wanna stay, but it could be nice for a spell.

MCT1-dependent mitochondrial lactate import sustains cardiac metabolism - Nature
In mouse myocardium, glucose oxidation persists in the absence of the mitochondrial pyruvate carrier, with mitochondrial MCT1 importing lactate into mitochondria and LDHB oxidizing it to pyruvate and NADH, sustaining cardiac energetics and preventing stress-induced heart failure.

@wiringthebrain.bsky.social btw, after Watson my next book will be on the xformation of origin-of-life rsrch in recent decades. Genes 1st vs metabolism 1st debates, & how metabolism & the 2nd Law *have* to be at the bottom of it all. All that + Lost City and Yellowstone! We'll have much to discuss
