One thing I do have is a hope that ‘Metaplot Guidance’ means getting back into having a metaplot.
I (as a ST) am staunchly pro-metaplot.
In the stream games that I have run and participated in, there have been references to old canon material.
Canon isn’t a dirty word.

this is funny, not necessarily in a funny "ha ha" way, as a Warframe player. not only are there multiple dating sim segments but the current metaplot is basically driven by old man yaoi

I think the clever internet smart person thing to say at this point would be that this metaplot is retvrn-themed and thus reactionary but I feel like that's not really it. If the metaplot reflects anything I think it's just that things have been getting harder and worse since ARENA came out.

the metaplot of the Scream series is that the events of each movie get adapted into a series called Stab, and then somebody watches Stab and gets inspired to go do real-life murders – which we see in the new Scream – which get adapted into more Stab movies. This is what the horror genre IS now.
Scream 2022 has the final girl shoot ghostface then look right at the camera and say "I prefer the Babadook" the fuck do you mean Camp Miasma was self indulgent, you're telling on yourself that you don't watch horror

the overarching metaplot of my horror/conspiracy thingy is that there's a kind of psychic ecosystem and an alien predator has been displaced into it from another place and time
there's a noosphere, and it's deeply degraded and disturbed. strange and vicious thoughtforms are manifesting in the world.
