Maybe a slime mold fruiting body (sporangia)

I think the cycle might be aphids➡️poop out sugar water + some protein➡️bacteria & fungi eat it➡️the slime mold eats them➡️the slime mold grows these little stalks. Just guessing!

Not the best photos of this slime mold. I was pouring sweat and the mosquitos were horrid. They start off these little black clumps and turn into this honeycomb looking fuzz.

Haha yeah same! I navigate through the woods by “that’s where I saw the such and such fungi that one time”, “just past the tree that has Metatrichia vesparium”. Utterly useless to other people, can’t give anyone directions.
