Moonless Meteors and the Milky Way
Since the nearly New Moon doesn't rise before the morning twilight many fainter meteors are easier to spot until then, with no interference from bright moonlight.

This photograph was taken by the Expedition 28 crew from the International Space Station on 13 August 2011 from an altitude of about 400 km. This meteor took place during the Perseid Meteor Shower, and was probably once part of Comet Swift-Tuttle. Meteors are typically visible at 75–120 km altitude.
