Central American Jumping Pit Viper (Metlapilcoatlus mexicanus)

This was such a beautiful find. It was resting right in the middle of the trail in the forest at @tapirvalley.bsky.social

Not seriously venomous, but I do like my long lenses!

A beautifully camouflaged snake rests coiled among the damp leaf litter of the forest floor, its textured scales blending seamlessly with the earthy tones of brown, cream, and rust. The intricate patterns on its body mimic the dappled light and shadows of its surroundings, offering a masterclass in nature’s artistry. Its triangular head, adorned with subtle markings, is poised with quiet intensity, while the surrounding leaves and mosses add depth and richness to the scene. A moment of raw elegance hidden in the heart of the jungle.
