While looking for something for my panel at @tfnationltd.bsky.social tonight I found some more Takara Tokyo Toy Show booklet pages for the Diaclone and Microchange lines with the alternate design drawings for the toys that would end up as Transformers.

Megatron was not the only Microchange gun robo figure to be used for Transformers, as the Masterforce character "Browning" was also taken from that assortment.

The "M"s seen on certain Minibots was commonly believed to relate to Microchange, the toyline they came from pre-transformers. It is now known the M stands for Mysterians, a western toyline that was canceled, and its molds somehow acquired by Takara.

Since these were some of the first not-based-on-Diaclone/Microchange designs, one could say these were among the first true Transformers designs. Chromia's head is obvious. Devcon's head is, whoa, the nose of the spaceship mode, almost exactly like Powerglide.

Soundwave was originally 1983 MC10 Cassette Man from Microman Microchange by Takara, and came with a clear plastic tape case including paper liner with pictures+info for mini-cassette figure. Reproduction case were made that resemble energon

As a nerd I don't appreciate how much knowledge I have that I just take for granted.
I saw a video about the origin of transformers, and thought "oh yeah, everyone knows the history of how robot toys became transforming robot toys became microman/Diaclone/Microchange became transformers"
