it's actually cool and good, to have to read through the posts of people you wouldn't ordinarily follow, to get to topical stuff. it's nice, to see what else the microcommunities that develop around a thread like

it is simply true that at twitter's scale you get better niche microcommunities. it is not the point of either slate article that users should *return to twitter,* which sucks. rather, it may be impossible to create a site that has all of twitter's pluses without its deeply toxic minuses.

People are rejecting this and going into microcommunities - discord channels, forums, and sometimes blogs - because the metrics driven designs of websites are at odds with the main function of the software: human communication.
