#ThinSectionThursday I think I've fallen in love with the strain shadows generated around these spinel grains in a serpentinite from the Island of Gorgona

A stretched amphibole grain (grunerite - yellow). The voids are filled by fibers of serpentine, most likely antigorite.

From the most geologically beautiful place in the world... Elba

It's not #ThinSectionThursday yet, but I have something exciting! Can you guess this mineral? (hint: very hard because this habit is uncommon)

Weird rock. This is a sheared pegmatite from Elba.

It may look like a regular rock, but those plagioclase grains float in a groundmass of Li-mica (lepidolite) and there are many elbaite crystals around. I suspect the K-feldspar is what they call 'rubicline', A Rb-rich feldspar.

Antigorite, lizardite, and chrysotile.... here you have them all, and this rock is #submitted ☺️

Please enjoy this tiny cute crystal, it's about 50 um across. Photographed in standard white light. Host rock is a black shale.

De 'vroegeling' as we call it (Erophila verna, whitlowgrass, it's actually related to cabbage, mustard and cress) is flowering!

An ephemeral tiny herald of incoming spring that sadly gets ignored by almost everyone...

Sometimes people should open their eyes for the beauty around them!
