The Pentagon wants bases to prepare to go off-grid for 90 days? What do they imagine will happen? War? Cyber-war?

Individuals can store food and water. People can get solar and battery back-up. But to go without communications? That's frightening.

Fascinating device. Similar to the microreactors used in R&D or speciality parts within laboratory equipment.
Back in my day they weren’t 3D printed but two or more sides which were stuck together.

I stand partially corrected - we're closer to the tech than I thought. 450 bases though?

If Kaleidos generates real operating data inside DOME, it could strengthen the broader case that microreactors can work outside the laboratory. It could also sharpen the competitive pressure on rivals that remain at zero-power testing.

Diplomacy is almost infinitely cheaper.

The magazine estimated the cost could run into the tens of billions of dollars, if not hundreds of billions and that fully meeting the goal could take decades.

The Pentagon's FORTRESS directive—mandating 90-day operational autonomy via microgrids and nuclear microreactors—marks a formal admission of infrastructure fragility. When defense planners decouple from civilian utilities, the vulnerability of the broader public grid becomes unavoidable.

I don't like being an alarmist, but this coordinated effort makes me a little anxious. It could just be precautions, but you know, the world hasn't been very good at precautions (we ignored Covid for a good month). So maybe stock up on water and non perishables. www.yahoo.com/news/us/arti...

Britain is telling families to keep canned food, bottled water, & cash on hand to get through 3 days of disruption.
