CUMHURBAŞKANI BAŞDANIŞMANI OKTAY SARAL İSTİFA ETTİ

Mike Tyson's legendary 20-inch neck, developed by age 18, was the result of a rigorous daily routine overseen by his trainer Cus D'Amato. The routine, which focused on extreme bodyweight exercises and wrestling, included balancing on his head and feet for up to 30 minutes daily, performing 200-500 repetitions of neck bridges. Heavy shrugs with 30-kilo weights and neck harnesses for weighted flexion and extension were also part of his regimen. While this method produced exceptional neck thickness and protective benefits for boxing, it led to severe cervical damage later in life, requiring spinal surgery with titanium pins. Tyson himself later warned against the routine due to the extreme spinal compression and high-volume twisting forces. Modern sports science emphasizes safer methods for neck development, advocating for structured, multi-planar resistance with gradual micro-load increases over months rather than weeks. The article stresses that normal neck training should cause only mild muscular burn, not sharp pain, tingling, or numbness, which indicate serious injury. The piece serves as both a historical account of Tyson's training and a cautionary note on the dangers of extreme physical conditioning without proper medical guidance.
