Brian Quinn, the organiser, was one of the eight qualifiers from the fourth Scottish Stillwater Bank Championship qualifier held at sun-kissed Millhall near Polmont. The Glasgow-based landscape gardener came second on the day with 24 fish, three behind the winner, Brian Brown, who hooked a trout on one of his first casts on the day. Third was Stephen Cowan with 21 fish and the Paisley-based angler has had a busy week having been in the Scotland team which finished second in the Home International at Ellerdine Lakes Telford in England.

Weed growth is affecting local fisheries and bosses have been forced to close two in particular, Millhall near Polmont, and Newlands Tweeddale. Millhall say they will be closed until this weekend and are sorry for the inconvenience to anglers.…

Weed growth is affecting local fisheries and bosses have been forced to close two in particular, Millhall near Polmont, and Newlands Tweeddale. Millhall say they will be closed until this weekend and are sorry for the inconvenience to anglers. Newlands Tweedale near Gifford will remain closed until Thursday, July 24 to allow for weed cutting and removal. Meanwhile, Morton Fishings near Livingston have re-stocked but Allandale Tarn, which was temporarily closed because of the hot weather, is now open again.

Millhall Fishery have advised anglers that they will remain closed until Saturday, July 19. Weed growth around the bankside platforms has been an issue here. Cutting has been carried out and club officials have apologised for any inconvenience. Meanwhile, Linlithgow Loch have seen 27 boats leave the harbour and ten fish weighing 32lb were kept with 93 fish returned. The successful set-ups were midge-tip, sink-tip, Di5 and Di7 lines with blobs, boobies, buzzers/muskins, diawl bachs, snakes, and lures proving the most effective patterns.

Scotland’s men’s carp angling team contest the Home Nations at Naseby Reservoir in Leicestershire this weekend against England and Wales. Locally, catches were down at Millhall Reservoir near Polmont with almost no surface activity and anglers having to go deep for successful hook-ups. Ally McCoist and buzzer patters plus a selection of lures worked best. Linlithgow Loch report that their most successful set-ups were floating or midge-tip lines with blobs or FAB in orange colour, buzzer, diawl bach and black and green lures the best patterns.

It is 9.30am on March 1. The thermometer in the car is showing 6c, but the wind chill made it feel much colder. Still, five anglers in three boats, plus 13 anglers on the bank, were casting for trout, and tempting trout, despite the low temperatures. This was at Millhall near Polmont, claimed to be one of the cheapest trout fisheries in Central Scotland, and anglers were anxious to get back into the swing on opening day.
