#MiniSkirmish

Played my first learning game of Carnevale today. Really loving the aesthetics. The scenario objective was just to escape so there wasn’t much motivation to climb up buildings yet. Looking forward to more complex objectives and adding agendas and magic in future games.
Figure shown leaping across the canal to land on some floating barrels before leaping the rest of the way. Successful jump checks are rewarded with free attacks and extra free combo jumps. It makes what could be a very static skirmish game very dynamic. Street urchin makes it to the gondal and escapes. Right before this… one of the creatures tossed the urchin into the canal and tried to drown them. Grappling and drowning add a lot of extra flavor to the game… it means there is more to do each turn than standard attacks.

#MiniSkirmish

I’ve been playing some learning games of Fireball Forward and really enjoying it. I’ve found that the game feels better when using small scale terrain (10mm terrain with 20mm figures) because it reinforces that the miniatures represent larger forces than you see.
20mm WW2 figures with 10mm terrain. 20mm WW2 figures with 20mm terrain feels more like a skirmish game than a larger tactical game where the bases represent full squads or other formations.

More Guards of Traitors Toll. This game has really got me into the hobby again. Quick setup, great AI NPC’s, stories that evolve as you play, and goals that encourage more than just combat.

Larger learning game of Guards of Traitors Toll. I struggled with the strategy for a while until I figured out how essential it was to focus on suspects once they were no longer ready. I need to build and paint a lot more villagers…

Small learning game of Guards of Traitors Toll. Instead of setting up a full city I just set up a smuggler scenario in a tavern.

A few guards and local townsfolk miniatures in the local pub. The mysterious guy in the green robes turned out to be a smuggler and attacked the nearest guard… his accomplice (the bard) attempted to sneak away.

Guards of Traitors Toll arrived today. I would be playing right now but tonight is my groups usual Arydia game night. I have a bunch of old Crescent Root city terrain that should be perfect for Traitors Toll.

Traitors toll boxes when they arrived. Nice hand drawn illustrations on the covers. Fantasy city terrain in 28mm. Old and run down city vibes… should be perfect for traitors toll.
