You’re rarely allowed in North America to hang mini-split units on facades, I think there’s a sense that it’s not safe for various reasons. Meanwhile, in the rest of the world, they tend to hold on pretty tightly even after the buildings are hit by missiles. All over Ukraine and here in Israel too…

Our downstairs minisplit said I can't do this anymore, and just stopped trying. We turned the poor thing off. there's no use pretending... The upstairs unit, on the other hand, is all LOOK WHAT I CAN DO, and putting out the heat of 40 furnaces.

I apparently just fixed my minisplit all by myself and I am very pleased with myself (and that the temperature is dropping in my house)

Get more quotes. I think a lot of contractors give a "fuck you" quote for heat pumps. Look for minisplit-specific contractors and evaluate those.

Love those heat pump enclosures here. Keeps minisplit costs low by limiting linesets and complexity, while also avoiding condensation issues with heat pump hot water heaters. Works best in freestanding point access blocks with lots of exterior exposures for each unit.

We live in a passivhaus, have one small A2A minisplit doing space heating/ cooling and a heat pump water cylinder. Works well.

Reminds me of the data center of a multibillion dollar law firm that had a bucket sitting on a stock of towels to catch the dripping a/c that cooled the primary server room down. It was literally a minisplit unit that someone somehow installed in an internal room of the office building.

I fuckin love solar, we're only partly on it but in a pinch we can charge the car and we also run a minisplit in the garage with it and a low draw server.
